Service: Wordpress SEO, CRO, Blog Strategy/ AEO

Content focus (for AEO) + hyperlocal SEO: organic search outperforms Google Ads at every growth stage for a local home buying company.

Opportunity

  • Business: migrate a custom-CMS site to WordPress for a Pittsburgh-area cash home buying company, without losing search value or breaking lead-gen forms
  • SEO/AEO: build long-tail search authority around core “sell house” intent, then layer in hyperlocal targeting across Pittsburgh neighborhoods and suburbs
  • Technical: 1:1 page structure/navigation parity, working in Gravity Forms lead capture enhancements, spam prevention, and resolution of WordPress security vulnerabilities
  • Measurement: set up Google Tag Manager with enhanced GA4 conversion tracking for real cross-channel lead measurements — something the client didn’t have before

The Way Forward

December 2021–present: HomeBuyers of Pittsburgh came on as a retainer client in early 2022, well before any WordPress migration was on the table. The first two-plus years were foundational SEO work: keyword targeting and building out the core landing pages, plus establishing the blog as a long-tail content engine. That groundwork is what built the initial “sell house” search authority and the hyperlocal neighborhood/suburb targeting.

The custom-CMS → WordPress migration didn’t happen until May 2024, once the SEO foundation was already established. That sequencing mattered: migrating a site that already had real organic authority meant the priority was protecting what we’d built, not starting from zero.

We managed the migration start to finish:

  • Full custom-CMS → WordPress migration with 1:1 page structure and navigation parity
  • Gravity Forms implementation, tested and confirmed working before cutover
  • Spam-prevention solutions to keep lead forms clean
  • Resolved a web security issue traced to a plugin vulnerability
  • Google Tag Manager setup with GA4 conversion tracking for true cross-channel measurement — a capability the client still relies on today

That long-tail content strategy compounded over time. Blog posts like “Best Pittsburgh Suburbs” now pull thousands of clicks a year, alongside deeper local-intent posts (ex. on property tax rates and the PA foreclosure process) — content that ranks for research questions a seller actually has, months before they’re ready to request an offer.

  • Traffic growth held even through Google’s September 2025 Search Console reporting change (the industry-wide update that reset how impressions get counted for most sites) — a good sign the gains reflect real ranking strength, not an inflated baseline.
  • Since we set up GA4 conversion tracking, organic search has driven more than 2X the conversions of paid search , despite the client’s paid search investment being +5X more per month.
  • Organic visitors also engage the longest on-site — 1m06s average engagement time vs. 44s for paid, and 0.68 engaged sessions per user vs. 0.62.

Why organic wins here, specifically: Selling a house — especially to a cash buyer — isn’t an impulse decision. It’s a long consideration window, often researched over weeks before a homeowner is ready to reach out. Paid search catches people at the exact moment they search; organic content meets them earlier, while they’re still asking “is this legit,” “what’s my house worth,” “how does this process work.”

That’s a real advantage in an industry with a documented trust problem — nearly two-thirds of home sellers describe cash-buyer companies as scams in surveys. A homepage ad can’t answer those doubts. A year of genuinely useful, locally-specific content can — and it’s what allowed us to differentiate HomeBuyers of Pittsburgh as a brand from the noise organically, instead of competing purely on ad spend in a category where trust is the actual bottleneck.

Nearly five years in, HomeBuyers of Pittsburgh is still a retainer client, and the hyperlocal + technical foundation we built in 2021 is still doing the work today.
